Common Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. All products listed on our website are available at no cost to eligible Status Card Holders with a valid prescription.

We have created easy-to-use prescription templates that help start the conversation with your doctor or healthcare provider. Your doctor will determine whether the product is appropriate for your healthcare needs and can either use our template or create their own prescription.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes. A prescription is required for FNHA coverage and is what allows your products to be covered at 100%.

We recommend downloading the appropriate prescription template and bringing it to your doctor, nurse practitioner, or healthcare provider. These templates have been specifically designed to include the information FNHA typically requires when reviewing product requests.

You can download, print, email, or share the prescription form directly with your healthcare provider.

Why do I need a prescription?

Your prescription is what allows FNHA to fully cover your products.

The prescription helps your healthcare provider confirm that the product is appropriate for your needs and provides the information FNHA requires for approval.

To make the process easier, StepUP provides pre-filled prescription templates for compression garments, orthotics, braces, and incontinence products.

How long does the process take?

Once we receive your completed prescription, it is submitted to FNHA for review.

FNHA approval timelines typically range from 2–3 weeks, depending on the product category and current processing times.

Once approval is received, StepUP typically ships products within 5 business days.

Products are usually shipped directly to your local community health centre, Band office, or designated delivery location.

Some products may require additional FNHA review or authorization and may take longer.

Compression Socks: How many pairs do I receive?

Most eligible FNHA clients qualify for up to 4 pairs of medical-grade compression socks per year.

StepUP ships all approved pairs together so you can maximize your annual FNHA coverage and receive the full benefit of your prescription.

What if the fit isn't right?

Contact us within 14 days of receiving your products.

Medical compression garments and braces require proper sizing. We will work with you to determine whether adjustments, exchanges, or re-sizing options are available.

We also recommend discussing any fit concerns with your healthcare provider.

Can I order for family members?

Yes. Each family member must have their own Status Card and prescription, but multiple household members can be included in the same order process.

What if my Status Card is expired?

Submit the most recent Status Card you have available.

In many cases FNHA can verify coverage directly. If updated documentation is required, we will contact you and help guide you through the process.
